Adding a phone number: Why it’s necessary and how it relates to NIS2
NIS2 is part of the new cybersecurity regulations, so it is necessary for registrant information to be up-to-date and complete. This now includes a phone number in the correct format.
For .CZ and .SK domains, we have noted that the phone number in the registrant’s information on the registry is either missing or in an invalid format.
If this information is not added or corrected, the domain may face restrictions on certain changes, failure to renew, or, in extreme cases, deletion by the registry.
For this reason, we strongly recommend that you check – and, if necessary, update – your information in the Central Registry.
What is NIS2?
NIS2, full name is the Network and Information Security Directive 2, is a new European Union directive on cybersecurity.
Its goal is to strengthen cybersecurity in the EU, improve cooperation among member states, and harmonize rules that have so far been fragmented across individual countries.
The changes also include an expansion of the scope of entities to which the rules apply. These now include top-level domain registries, domain registrars, and DNS operators.
What does this mean for domains?
Each EU member state is now implementing the new rules in its own way. This creates new requirements for registries of national top-level domains, which registrars like us – Active24 -must comply with.
As your domain registrar, we work to ensure that your domains meet all the necessary requirements. In some cases, such as this one, however, we also need your cooperation to do so.
One of the basic requirements of NIS2 is that domain holder information be up-to-date and complete; in addition, it is now also important that the phone number be entered correctly.
Risks associated with .CZ Domains
Starting in early 2026, it will not be possible to register, modify the registrant’s information, or transfer .CZ domains that do not include a phone number in the registrant’s information.
In the fall of that year, the .CZ domain registry – NIC.CZ – will stop renewing domains that do not include a phone number.
What about .SK domains?
For .SK domains without a phone number, the SK-NIC.SK registry may notify the registrant of the need to add or correct the information.
If the information is not supplemented or corrected, the Central Registry may delete the domain.
What do we recommend now?
Please check the registrant information for your domains. If a phone number is missing or is not in the correct format, please update it as soon as possible.
If any of your domains are affected by this change, you will receive an email with a specific list. However, it’s safest not to wait and to verify the information right away
