Editing directory access rights

Each file and directory have its own access rights and owner. They are also called chmod. In this guide we will describe what these permissions for files and directories are and how to edit them via FTP.


Chmod (change mode) is a command that servers in Unix systems to define permissions to files and directories. These permissions are also settable on FTP server via FTP client (WebFTP, Total Commander, FileZilla).

Editing rights via WebFTP

1. Log in to the FTP
2. Select permissions to the file/directory

3. New open will open where you can set permissions for selected file/directory.

Editing access rights via FileZilla

  • Log in to the FTP
  • Right-click on the name of the file / directory
  • Select “File permissions”, or access rights on the last line.
  • Edit the permission as necessary as show on picture bellow and then save the changes
